Carahealth Hypothyroid

This mix contains a blend of herbs specifically formulated to treat an underactive thyroid. The herbs are naturally rich in Iodine, which feeds the thyroid gland to improve function. Astragalus and alfalfa contain selenium, which is involved in the conversion of thyroid hormones. Black cohosh is especially used for treating menstrual problems associated with hypothyroidism.

Alfalfa Medicago sativa - Alfalfa is anodyne, antibacterial, antiscorbutic, aperient, diuretic, emetic, febrifuge, haemostatic, nutritive, stimulant, and tonic, Alfalfa is high in protein and contains vitamins A, B1, B63 B 12, C, E and K, along with the minerals calcium, potassium, phosphorus, iron, and zinc and importantly in relation to thyroid health, selenium. Alfalfa leaves, either fresh or dried, have traditionally been used as a nutritive tonic to stimulate the appetite and promote weight gain. The plant has an oestrogenic action and could prove useful in treating problems related to menstruation and the menopause. The plant is antiscorbutic, aperient, diuretic, oxytocic, haemostatic, nutritive, stimulant and tonic. The expressed juice is emetic and is also anodyne in the treatment of gravel. The plant is taken internally for debility in convalescence or anaemia, haemorrhage, menopausal complaints, pre-menstrual tension, fibroids etc. A poultice of the heated leaves has been applied to the ear in the treatment of earache. The leaves can be used fresh or dried. The leaves are rich in vitamin K which is used medicinally to encourage the clotting of blood. This is valuable in the treatment of jaundice. The plant is grown commercially as a source of chlorophyll and carotene, both of which have proven health benefits. The leaves also contain the anti-oxidant tricin.

Astragalus / Huang Qi Astragalus membranaceus - Astragalus is an adaptogen, antibacterial, anti-cancer, cardiotonic, diuretic, febrifuge, hypoglycaemic, hypotensive, hepatic, kidney strengthening and ophthalmic, pectoral, tonic, uterine tonic and vasodilator. Huang Qi is commonly used in China. The root is a sweet tonic herb that stimulates the immune system and many organs of the body, whilst lowering blood pressure and blood sugar levels. It is particularly suited to young, physically active people, increasing stamina and endurance and improving resistance to the cold. Huang Qi is used especially for treatment of the kidneys and also to avoid senility. It is used in the treatment of cancer, prolapse of the uterus or anus, abscesses and chronic ulcers, chronic nephritis with oedema and proteinuria. Huang Qi/Astragalus is used for treating the common cold and upper respiratory infections; to strengthen and regulate the immune system; and to increase the production of blood cells particularly in individuals with chronic degenerative disease or in individuals with cancer undergoing chemotherapy or radiation therapy. Recent research in the West has shown that the root can increase the production of interferon and macrophages and thus help restore normal immune function in cancer patients. Patients undergoing chemotherapy or radiotherapy recover faster and live longer if given Huang Qi concurrently. It increases the production of blood cells. In TCM, astragalus is said to tonify spleen & lung Qi, raises spleen & stomach Qi and is used to treat prolapse, tonifies the Wei Qi to boost the immune system, tonify Qi & blood due to loss of blood to treat postpartum fever. Astragalus is used orally as an antibacterial and antiviral; a tonic; liver protectant; anti-inflammatory; antioxidant; and as a diuretic, vasodilator or hypotensive agent. Astragalus is specific for chronic cough. In TCM, Astragalus can be combined with Dang gui to treat exhaustion from blood loss. The lifting quality of the astragalus can help to neutralise the downward draining property of Dang Gui, helping to prevent diarrhoea. Astragalus contains selenium which is involved in the conversion of thyroid hormones. Selenium is necessary to form glutathione peroxidase and thioredoxin reductase (two of our bodies own natural anti-oxidants) thus its important contribution to the prevention of the twentieth-century plagues, cancer and cardiovascular disease and three known deiodinase enzymes (which convert one thyroid hormone to another). Low soil levels of selenium are associated with higher cancer rates and HIV. People in Keshan, China use Astragalus, which accumulates selenium from the soil, to treat Keshan disease, a type of heart disease associated with selenium deficiency.

Bladderwrack Fucus vesiculosus - Bladderwrack is antihypothyroid and antirheumatic. The main use of bladder wrack in herbal medicine is as a source of iodine, an essential nutrient for the thyroid gland. Bladder wrack is useful in the treatment of underactive thyroid glands (hypothyroidism) and goitre. It helps relieve rheumatoid arthritis and rheumatic conditions such as gout. A chemical constituent of bladder wrack called alginic acid swells upon contact with water, forms a type of "seal" at the top of the stomach, and for this reason is used in several over-the-counter preparations for heartburn. Bladder wrack should not be used in cases of hyperthyroidism or cardiac problems, during pregnancy and lactation or acne. Black cohosh Cimicifuga racemosa - Black cohosh is an alterative, anti-inflammatory, antirheumatic, antispasmodic, astringent, birthing aid, cardiotonic, diaphoretic, diuretic, emmenagogue, expectorant, hypnotic, hypoglycaemic, sedative, tonic, and vasodilator. Black cohosh is a traditional remedy of the North American Indians where it was used mainly to treat women's problems, especially painful periods and problems associated with the menopause. Black cohosh is the trophorestorative of the female reproductive system. Research has shown that the root has oestrogenic activity and is thought to reduce levels of pituitary luteinizing hormone, thereby decreasing the ovaries production of progesterone. It maybe used beneficially in cases of painful or delayed menstruation. Ovarian cramps or cramping pain in the womb will be relieved by Black cohosh. It is very active in the treatment of rheumatic pains, but also in rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, in muscular and neurological pain. It finds use in sciatica and neuralgia, associated with the third trimester of pregnancy. Black cohosh is especially specific for treating menstrual problems associated with hypothyroidism. It's a popular treatment for peri-menopausal women, treats symptoms of PMS and may help with infertility.

All herbs are 40 euro per bottle except for Carahealth Memory, Carahealth Antiageing, Carahealth Immune, Carahealth Male, Carahealth Adapt and Carahealth Anticancer, Carahealth Chemotherapy support and Carahealth Partus Prep which are 45 euro. Herbs are sold in a miniumum of 2 bottles at a time or one month supply (this can be a combination of 2 different tonics such as a Partus Prep and Birth Aid). This is because you will need a minimum of one month to see a real effect in chronic conditions, although if the herbal tonic is right for you, you should expect to see some improvement of your condition within the 2 weeks. Postage and packaging is 10 euro for 2 bottles to Ireland and UK. Contact me for postage rates to other countries. As a rough guide, I say for every year you have had a condition you need a month of treatment. The shop is in the process of being built, meanwhile, please email me your order and I will send you an invoice via PayPal. Herbs are posted on receipt of payment and delivery is 3-5 days.

All herbal tinctures come in 200ml bottles, taken at either 5ml 3 x day or 7 1/2 ml 2 x day. One bottle taken at this therapeutic dose will last 2 weeks. All herbs are either 1 in 1s or 1 in 2s meaning they are 1 part herb in 1 or 2 parts liquid respectively, as opposed to other herbs on the Irish and UK market which are either 1 in 3s or 1 in 5s. Therefore my tinctures are at least 2 x greater in strength and effectiveness. They are also organic or wildcrafted where available and I do not use endangered species.

Whilst the Carahealth Herbal Tincture range has been formulated to have no negative drug/herb interactions. If you are on medication, pregnant or breastfeeding, I recommend getting expert naturopathic advice on herbal contraindications and drug/herb interactions by booking a Skype consult. I accept no resposibility if you self-prescribe my herbs whilst taking medication or are pregnant or breastfeeding (although my Carahealth Partus Prep and Carahealth Birth Aid can be self-prescribed as they are specific for pregnancy). I can make a herbal tincture specifically for you that is safe in pregnancy, breastfeeding or if you are on medication. Or perhaps you are not on medications but would like a consult to ensure your self-prescription is correct and would like advice on diet, lifestyle and supplements.
