The Liver Flush

Spring is traditionally time to detox. Here are instructions for a detox including a Liver Flush, originally used by a Dr. Schulze. Dr. Richard Schulze, N.D., M.H . is one of the foremost authorities on natural medicine and herbalism in the World. He operated Natural Cure Clinics in New York, Southern California and Europe for almost 20 years up until 1994. The following method for a Liver Flush formed part of his programme for treatment of so-called “incurable” diseases. After both his parents unfortunately dying of heart attacks at an early age and he himself being diagnosed with an incurable disease, Dr Schulze changed his lifestyle and got better. The following is part of his treatment protocol.

Instructions for a liver Flush


  • Organic unpasteurised apple juice
  • Organic cold pressed virgin olive oil
  • Magnesium 400mg

For 3 days eat only steamed vegetables such as broccoli, cabbage, carrots, spinach, pakchoi, choi sum etc and brown rice.

Drink 2 litres of filtered or spring water daily. See also Carahealth Gravity Fed water Filters.

Drink also 1 litre of unpasteurised organic apple juice every day for three days.

Take Magnesium 400mg 2 x day.

On the third night drink 250ml of virgin organic cold pressed olive oil mixed with fresh squeezed lemon juice. To make the mixture more palatable, grapefruit juice or pineapple juice may be added. The olive oil mixture must be drunk in a very short period of time, and it will taste horrible.

Lie down on your right side in foetal position (knees up) immediately following drinking the olive oil mixture, and remain there for at least 30 minutes. Keep a bowl by your head in case you are nauseous or vomit. Try not to vomit. The urge to vomit usually passes after a few minutes.

Go to bed. For the next few days check your stool to see if you pass any greenish-black stones. These stones are gallstones and may have been blocking your liver detoxification capabilities and you from better health.

Try and maintain healthy eating habits by avoiding trans fats, drugs and alcohol as much as possible. Eat liver friendly foods such as fresh fruits, vegetables, lean meats and nuts and seeds such as sunflowers, pumpkin, almonds and Brazil nuts and oily fish including salmon, tuna herring, sardines and mackerel. Cut down your consumption of red meat, dairy, processed foods, refined sugars and soft drink.
