This tincture contains a blend of anondyne, anti-inflammatory and antispasmodic herbs used specifically to alleviate any pain including chronic muscular pain, arthritic and gout pain, severe neurological pain, headaches and migraines and period pain. For labour pains use the Carahealth Birth Aid. It relieves gall-stone pain and renal colic. It can be used in conjunction with pain killers however will reduce the need for them. Medication will need to be adjusted accordingly. In fact Carahealth Pain can assist people to come off traditional painkillers.
Jamaica Dogwood Piscidia erythrina- Jamaica dogwood is anodyne, anti-spasmodic and nervine. Jamaican Dogwood is a powerful sedative, used in its West Indian homeland as a fish poison. Whilst not being poisonous to humans, the given dosage level should not be exceeded. It is a powerful remedy for the treatment of painful conditions such as neuralgia and migraine. It can also be used in the relief of ovarian and uterine pain. Its main use is perhaps in insomnia where this is due to nervous tension or pain. It is indicated for inflammatory fever of any character, and in inflammatory rheumatism. In violent spasmodic cough it produces relief, in phthisis it controls the night cough and induces restful sleep. It is a specific in whooping cough. It can provide pain relief in acute intestinal colic, gall-stone colic and renal colic, It has been used to lessen labour pains. Facial neuralgia seems particularly amenable to the action of piscidia. Ovarian neuralgia and pains due to straining on the uterine ligaments in displacement and tumour, are relieved by this remedy. It seems to have a satisfactory influence on all pelvic pain. In obstetrics it controls erratic pains and conduces to quiet and rest, and overcomes rigidity by its specific relaxing or antispasmodic influence, although it does not interfere with the normal uterine contractions. In the distress following the adjustment of fractured bones or reduction of dislocations, it is especially useful and satisfactory.
Cramp bark Viburnum opulus - Vib Op is anti-inflammatory, astringent, antispasmodic, sedative, smooth and skeletal muscle relaxant, cardiac tonic, and uterine relaxant. It is indicated for cramps, ovarian and uterine pains, spasmodic muscular cramp, uterine dysfunction, menopausal metrorrhagia, threatened miscarriage, partus preparator, infantile enuresis. Viburnum opulus is a specific remedy for visceral tensions. It helps to relax muscular tension and spasm and is primarily used in the treatment of muscular cramps and ovarian and uterine muscle problems. It relaxes the uterus and relieves the painful cramps associated with menstruation. It may also be used in threatened miscarriage. Its astringent action gives it a role in the treatment of excessive blood loss in periods and especially bleeding associated with the menopause. It may also be used to help quieten convulsive states in children. It relaxes the cardiovascular system in hypertension and eases constipation associated with tension. It also relieves migraine headaches.
Wild yam Dioscorea villosa – Wild yam is anti-spasmodic, anti-inflammatory, anti-rheumatic, hepatic, cholagogue and diaphoretic. In western herbal medicine wild yam is used to relieve intestinal colic, to soothe diverticulitis, ease dysmenorrhoea and ovarian and uterine pains. It is also used to treat rheumatoid arthritis, especially the acute phase where there is intense inflammation. Wild yam was once the sole source of the raw materials for contraceptive pill, which is nowadays made from pregnant horses urine. In TCM Dioscorea is known as or Shanyao, 山藥, or Huai Shan 淮山. It is primarily known as a herb that drains damp. It is bitter and neutral and said to enter the liver and stomach, kidney and urinary bladder channels. Shanyao tonifies the Qi and Yin of the spleen and stomach and is indicated for deficiency of the spleen and stomach with lack of appetite and energy, loose stools, spontaneous sweating, abdominal distention after eating, and a pale tongue. Shanyao also tonifies the Lung Qi and Yin and is indicated for lung Qi and Yin deficiency syndromes characterised by chronic coughing and wheezing and no sputum or very small amounts of sticky sputum. Shanyao tonifies Yin and is ourishing, slightly astringent and not drying, therfore this herb is effective at treating Xiao Ke (wasting and thirsting syndrome). Shanyao also expels wind damp (cold and hot bi syndromes), relaxes the sinews and clears damp heat and is indicated for skin disorders including exudative eczema and pustular sores).
White Willow Salix alba – White willow is anodyne, antiinflammatory, antiperiodic, antiseptic, astringent, diaphoretic, diuretic, febrifuge, hypnotic, sedative and tonic. Famous as the original source of salicylic acid (the precursor of aspirin), white willow and several closely related species have been used for thousands of years to relieve joint pain and manage fevers. It has been used internally in the treatment of dyspepsia connected with debility of the digestive organs, rheumatism, arthritis, gout, inflammatory stages of auto-immune diseases, feverish illnesses, neuralgia and headache. Its tonic and astringent properties render it useful in convalescence from acute diseases, in treating worms, chronic dysentery and diarrhoea.
Valerian Valeriana officinalis – Valerian is antispasmodic, carminative, diuretic, hypnotic, nervine, sedative and stimulant. Valerian is noted especially for its effect as a tranquilliser and nervine, particularly for those people suffering from nervous overstrain. Valerian has been shown to encourage sleep, improve sleep quality and reduce blood pressure. It is also used internally in the treatment of painful menstruation, cramps, hypertension, irritable bowel syndrome etc. The active ingredients are called valepotriates, research has confirmed that these have a calming effect on agitated people, but are also a stimulant in cases of fatigue. Valerian is currently one of the most popular orthodox antispasmodic medications in Russia and Germany. It is its anticonvulsant action that has been useful in treating epilepsy. Valerian is classified as a tonic herb. It can regulate and balance opposite extremes. Recent research has shown it to be a sedative but more research has reported it can also stimulate in a way as to improve coordination, increase concentration and energy. This tonic nature of Valerian allows it to depress or stimulate where necessary depending on the current needs of the nervous system.
Devils claw Harpagophytum procumbens– Devils claw is anti-inflammatory, antirheumatic, anodyne, digestive stimulant, sedative and hepatic. This plant has been found effective in the treatment of some cases of arthritis. This action is due to the presence of a glycoside called harpagoside that reduces inflammation in the joints. Devil's Claw is worth considering in cases of arthritis where there is inflammation and pain. This plant also aids in liver and gall-bladder complaints.
Black cohosh Cimicifuga racemosa - Black cohosh is an alterative, anti-inflammatory, antirheumatic, antispasmodic, astringent, birthing aid, cardiotonic, diaphoretic, diuretic, emmenagogue, expectorant, hypnotic, hypoglycaemic, sedative, tonic, and vasodilator. Black cohosh is a traditional remedy of the North American Indians where it was used mainly to treat women's problems, especially painful periods and problems associated with the menopause. Black cohosh is the trophorestorative of the female reproductive system. Research has shown that the root has oestrogenic activity and is thought to reduce levels of pituitary luteinizing hormone, thereby decreasing the ovaries production of progesterone. It maybe used beneficially in cases of painful or delayed menstruation. Ovarian cramps or cramping pain in the womb will be relieved by Black cohosh. It is very active in the treatment of rheumatic pains, but also in rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, in muscular and neurological pain. It finds use in sciatica and neuralgia, associated with the third trimester of pregnancy.

All herbs are 45 euro per bottle. Herbs are sold in a miniumum of 2 bottles at a time or one month supply. You will need a minimum of one month to see a real effect in chronic conditions, although if the herbal tonic is right for you, you should expect to see some improvement of your condition within the 2 weeks. Postage and packaging is 10 euro for 2 bottles to Ireland and UK. As a rough guide, I say for every year you have had a condition you need a month of treatment. All herbal tinctures come in 200ml bottles, taken at either 5ml 3 x day or 7 1/2 ml 2 x day. One bottle taken at this therapeutic dose will last 2 weeks. All herbs are either 1 in 1s or 1 in 2s meaning they are 1 part herb in 1 or 2 parts liquid respectively, as opposed to other herbs on the Irish and UK market which are either 1 in 3s or 1 in 5s. Therefore my tinctures are at least 2 x greater in strength and effectiveness. They are also organic or wildcrafted where available and I do not use endangered species.
