Carahealth Weight Loss This tincture contains a blend of herbs specifically formulated to

1. Balance the blood sugar to reduce cravings for sweets, and carbohydrates like bread and potatoes.

2. Improve insulin sensitivity to treat Metabolic Syndrome and address central obesity.

3. Promote bile flow from the liver to help assist in fat metabolism as bile emulsifies fats.

4. Tonify the thyroid gland to gently boost the Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR).

Milk thistle Silybum marinarum Milk thistle is astringent, bitter, cholagogue, demulcent, diaphoretic, diuretic, emetic, emmenagogue, galactogogue, hepatic, stimulant, stomachic and tonic. Milk thislet is the trophorestorative of the liver. Milk Thistle can be used to increase the secretion and flow of bile from the liver and gall bladder and contains constituents, which protect liver cells from chemical damage. Silymarin, an extract from the seed, acts on the membranes of the liver cells preventing the entry of virus toxins and other toxic compounds and thus preventing damage to the cells from toxic chemicals and medications. It is used internally in the treatment of liver and gall bladder diseases, jaundice, cirrhosis, hepatitis and poisoning. It is indicated in skin complaints associated with a sluggish liver. As a galactogogue it specifically stimulates the flow of breast milk. Milk thistle also lowers cholesterol levels, reducing insulin resistance and reduces the growth of cancer cells in breast, cervical and prostate cancers. Regeneration of the liver is particularly important in the treatment of cancer since this disease is always characterised by a severely compromised and often partially destroyed liver.

Burdock root Arctium lappa Burdock is an alterative, antibacterial, antifungal, antiphlogistic, aperient, blood purifier, carminative, cholagogue, depurative, diaphoretic, diuretic, hypoglycaemic and stomachic. Burdock is one of the foremost detoxifying herbs in both Chinese and Western herbal medicine. It is used to treat conditions caused by an 'overload' of toxins, such as throat and other infections, boils, rashes and other skin problems. The root is thought to be particularly good at helping to eliminate heavy metals from the body. The plant is also part of a North American formula called Essiac, which is a popular treatment for cancer. The plant is antibacterial, antifungal, carminative and can be used to treat fungal infection such as candida. Recent research has shown that seed extracts lower blood sugar levels. In TCM Burdock is known as Niu Bang Zi. The fruits are used. Burdock fruit is said to be pungent, bitter and cold and enters the stomach and lung meridian. It is said to expel wind-heat and benefits throat and is indicated for fever, cough, sore-red-swollen throat, clears heat and relieve toxicity and is indicated for red swellings, carbuncles, mumps, rashes and moisten the intestines and treat constipation due to wind-heat.

Cinnamon bark Cinnamonum zeylanicum – Cinnamon is antidiarrhoeal, antimicrobial, anthelmintic, astringent, aromatic, antiseptic, antispasmodic, carminative, hypoglycaemic, orexigenic, refrigerant and a warming digestive tonic. It is indicated for dyspepsia, flatulence, nausea and diarrhoea. Cinnamon is predominantly used as a carminative addition to herbal prescriptions. It is used in flatulent dyspepsia, dyspepsia with nausea, intestinal colic and digestive atony associated with cold and debilitated conditions. It relieves nausea and vomiting, and, because of its mild astringency, it is particularly useful in infantile diarrhoea. It is frequently used in the treatment of candidia albicans overgrowth. Cinnamaldehyde is hypotensive and spasmolytic and increases peripheral blood flow. The essential oil is a potent antibacterial, antifungal and uterine stimulant. Cinnamon slows the rate at which the stomach empties after meals, reducing the rise in blood sugar after eating. Cinnamon may also significantly help people with type 2 diabetes improve their ability to respond to insulin, thus normalizing their blood sugar levels. Cinnamon improves insulin activity.

Gymnema / Gurmari Gmynema sylvestra– Gymnema is antidiabetic, antisweetener and anti-inflammatory. While it is still being studied, and the effects of the herb are not entirely known, the herb has been shown to reduce blood sugar levels when used for an extended period of time. Additionally, Gymnema reduces the taste of sugar when it is placed in the mouth, thus some use it to fight sugar cravings. From extract of the leaves were isolated glycosides known as Gymnemic acids, which exhibit anti-sweet activity. This effect, however, is short-lived, lasting a mere fifteen minutes. The herb actually reduces cravings for sugar by blocking sugar receptors in the tongue. The active ingredient is thought to be gurmenic acid, which has structure similar to saccharose. Extracts of Gymnema is not only claimed to curb a sweet tooth but also for treatment of as varied problems as hyperglycemia, obesity, high cholesterol levels, anaemia and digestion. According to the Sushruta of the Ayurveda it helps to treat Madhumeha ie glycosuria. In 2005, a study made by King’s College, London, United Kingdom, showed that a water-soluble extract of Gymnema Sylvestre, caused reversible increases in intracellular calcium and insulin secretion in mouse and human β-cells. Henceforth these data suggest that extracts derived from Gymnema Sylvestre may be useful as therapeutic agents for the stimulation of insulin secretion in individuals with Type II Diabetes Mellitus.

Fenugreek seeds Trigonella foenum-graecum – Fenugreek is antii-inflammatory, anticancer, cardiotonic, carminative, demulcent, deobstruent, diuretic, emollient, expectorant, febrifuge, galactogogue, hypoglycaemic, hypocholesterolamic, hypotensive, laxative, parasiticide, and restorative. Fenugreek is much used in herbal medicine, especially in North Africa, the Middle East and India. Research has shown that the seeds can inhibit cancer of the liver, lower blood cholesterol levels and also have an antidiabetic effect. The seed yields a strong mucilage and is therefore useful in the treatment of inflammation and ulcers of the stomach and intestines. The seed is very nourishing and body-building and is one of the most efficacious tonics in cases of physical debility caused by anaemia or by infectious diseases, especially where a nervous factor is involved. It is also used in the treatment of late-onset diabetes, poor digestion (especially in convalescence), insufficient lactation, painful menstruation, labour pains etc. The seeds freshen bad breath and restore a dulled sense of taste. Compounds extracted from the plant have shown cardiotonic, hypoglycaemic, diuretic, anti-inflammatory and hypotensive activity. One of its constituent alkaloids, called 'trigonelline', has shown potential for use in cancer therapy. The seed contains the saponin diosgenin, an important substance in the synthesis of oral contraceptives and sex hormones. Fenugreek acts as a carminative to lessen any colic associated with constipation. In Ayurvedic medicine, Methi (Trigonella foenum-graecum) is known to have anti-carcinogenic properties and reduce blood cholesterol levels. It is also used as a laxative. The seeds should not be prescribed medicinally for pregnant women since they can induce uterine contractions.

Bladderwrack Fucus vesiculosus - Bladderwrack is antihypothyroid and antirheumatic. The main use of bladder wrack in herbal medicine is as a source of iodine, an essential nutrient for the thyroid gland. Bladder wrack is useful in the treatment of underactive thyroid glands (hypothyroidism) and goitre. It helps relieve rheumatoid arthritis and rheumatic conditions such as gout. A chemical constituent of bladder wrack called alginic acid swells upon contact with water, forms a type of "seal" at the top of the stomach, and for this reason is used in several over-the-counter preparations for heartburn. Bladder wrack should not be used in cases of hyperthyroidism or cardiac problems, during pregnancy and lactation or acne.

Poke root Phytolacca decandra – Phytolacca is an alterative, emetic and purgative. As an alterative herb it will gradually restore the proper function of the body and increase health and vitality. Poke root is a potent lymphatic alterative, useful in combination for skin problems due to lymphatic congestion with associated swollen lymph glands and other signs of lymphatic congestion. According to Mrs. Grieves, “A slow emetic and purgative with narcotic properties. As an alterative it is used in chronic rheumatism and granular conjunctivitis. As an ointment….it is used in psora, tinea capitis, favus and sycosis and other skin diseases….It is used as a cathartic in paralysis of the bowels. Headaches of many sources are benefited by it…. …Authorities differ as to its value in cancer…It is also stated to be of undoubted value as an internal remedy in cancer of the breast.”
